1968 Plymouth Barracuda $61,500
In 2008 this car was purchased as a rust free, solid and straight subject for a high dollar restoration. It was a good looking, running and driving car at that time. This car was then completely pulled a part, down to the nuts and bolts and professionally finished in B5 Blue with just a touch of extra metallic in the paint. The car was painted as a completely disassembled unit, meaning all bolt on body panels were removed, all glass and trim removed, interior completely removed as was all wiring, bolt on suspension and steering parts, exhaust, engine transmission, rear end…. everything. Under the carpet and in the trunk is the same high quality paint that you see on the outside.
The car was meticulously and professionally put back together by a well known, reputable shop, to the tune of nearly $100,000. It was driven sparingly and shown occasionally as part of a private collection of vehicles.
Fast forward to 2016, the vehicle owner brought the car to Troy Martin, Owner of Full Scale Hot Rods and Customs. Troy has been building high quality cars for many years. His builds and his shop have been featured in numerous publications such as Hot Rod Magazine and on the internet, car shows…etc. He is a very well known, reputable builder in the Southern California car scene. Feel free to look him up on the internet and you will find plenty of info.
Troy purchased the car and immediately started upgrading and fine tuning the build. The 440 that was in the car, was not fast enough for his liking. It was replaced with an estimated 530 horsepower / 440 Magnum, built by Hughes Engines, featuring an Edelbrock Power Package - RPM heads, RPM intake, RPM Camshaft and Lifter set. It was given 10.5:1 forged pistons, Hughes custom push rods with 1.7 roller rockers, a full MSD ignition system, topped it with a Quick Fuel Technology 780cfm Carburetor and mounted the beast in the engine bay with Schumacher mounts. Still not good enough… the car had to have a Classic Air A/C system in it as well! Behind the engine is a professionally built 727 Torque-Flite Automatic with a B&M Flexplate, a Hughes 2200-2500 stall converter and a Cheetah Turbo Action valve body. Add to that a MOPAR deep transmission pan and a polished external trans cooler. That would be an exciting package and good enough for most guys! But when you’re a long time professional car builder, you’re cursed by being a perfectionist as well. Troy then added a Gear Vendors Overdrive Unit!
As the theme goes with this car, there’s more! Further back you’ll find a new Big Block Driveshaft with heavy duty u-joints, connected to a Currie 9” rear end filled with a posi unit and 3.25:1 gear set. Still looking underneath, you’ll find a beautiful newer exhaust system with Schumacher headers, Quick Time electric cut outs (on command you can run open headers) running pipe back into Dynomax mufflers and out the rear exiting correct reproduction exhaust tips. Nothing skimpy here!
Keep looking, you’ll notice Disc Brakes on all 4 corners and under the hood you’ll see a billet Wilwood master cylinder. Bolted to those brakes are a set of custom 17x7 (front) and 17x8 (rear) Magnum 500 wheels with custom made centers featuring the Full Scale Hot Rods logo, “1:1” on the center caps.
The car features tons of upgrades, notably the tubular upper control arms and adjustable strut rods, the front and rear sway bars, the custom front spoiler built by “Spoilers by Randy”. The absolutely breath taking interior - you’ll not find a more impeccable dash on another Barracuda. The console was redyed and restored. Every aspect of the car has been polished and kissed.
Bottom line with this build was Troy’s vision. Have a car that is safe and reliable, fun to drive, looks amazing and is comfortable while doing it. If those things sound up your alley, this just might be the car for you. Sure you could go hire a shop to build you one like this. It’ll only cost you an excess of $120,000. Or you could buy this one for about half of that price.
