The BMW M6 has been considered a flagship M car since its introduction in 1983. Since that introduction, the BMW M6 has always been acclaimed throughout it's lifespan for it's somewhat aggressive lines and styling, giving rise to it's nickname the "Shark Nose". The current F13 M6, the successor of the E63 M6, is the third generation in the lineage of the M6. Between 1990 and 2004 BMW removed the M6 from their model lineup, reintroducing it with the S85 V10 engine at the Geneva Auto Show in 2005. This latest M6 comes from a background of high performance coupes which means it has an extremely high expectation to live up to. Both the E24 and E63 M6s set the bar for performance during their time of production. The E24’s 3.5-liter inline six, a modified version of the M88 used in the legendary M1 super car, produced 282 hp and over 250 lb-ft of torque. In 2005 the E63 was introduced with the extremely high-revving, S85 5.0-liter V10, producing a whopping 500 hp and 384 lb-ft. This latest M6 comes with the S63TU which is a twin turbo 4.4-liter V8 producing 560 hp and just over 500 ft-lbs of torque, edging out the previous E63 generation by 60 horsepower and 116 ft-lbs of torque. In addition to the added power, there is quite a bit of added weight as well; the F13 M6 is over 400 lbs heavier than its predecessor. First Impressions: Yes, 400 lbs is a huge amount of weight, and the newest M6 is a bit longer and wider than its predecessor. Climb in the unique cockpit of the M6 and suddenly you become part of the car. You sit low, held in by the interior which seems to wrap around you, focused on the road ahead of you through the low cut windshield. Click the gear shift over to manual mode, hit the M1 button and suddenly that 400 lbs is left somewhere on the asphalt behind you. The Project: At Turner we pride ourselves on being on the cutting edge of performance and technology for BMWs. We want to have a complete understanding of these new cars to continue our reputation as a leading BMW tuner. Please stay tuned for more to come on the new M6. Our goal is to take this third generation M6 and make it unique. We are going to hand pick the best possible products and accessories for this project car to learn first-hand the true potential of this latest generation of forced induction BMW power plants. Please stay tuned as we begin to modify this M6 and review the products we use.
